We have been planning months for our travels this summer and fall. A few weeks ago Tom and I discussed taking the girls along for the first week of our 10 week journey. We got the okay from their parents and began strategic planning to make the most of our time with them. Our primary goal for them was National Parks and NP Junior Ranger activities. Hold on tight, it’s going to be a busy eight days.
August 1st—
We departed for the first leg of the journey with the girls and Belle in tow. Tom expertly navigated I-20 south of Dallas/Fort Worth. Just outside of Fort Worth Lillian commented on how the view from her window was changing. (She said that differently but she was very aware of how the scenery had been changing around us.) We told her that this was where The West begins.
After traveling about 300 miles, we arrived at an Interstate side RV park in Abilene. When we arrived, Emery questioned “Is this it??” The playground and the swimming pool were a welcome sight after a long day’s travel.
Adding to the adventure: Traveling in the 100+ degrees, our fridge just couldn’t keep with the beaming sun (freezer was great, thank goodness!) Our fridge was well stocked for the week. I had planned strategically for healthy snacks and meals, while also navigating the cyclospora risk… We will be making a Walmart stop sooner than planned.
The girls have traveled very well. We are so thrilled to share our adventure and create memories with them.
